ANNETTE TWIST

Artist Statement & Biography

Like all artists, I have a passion and need to be creative. I fulfill that through the medium of photography. The creativity begins with my discovering a subject. Mostly, this is unplanned. This is the main reason why I now rely on my IPhone as my primary camera, which is nearly always with me. Instinctively, I see the possibilities that the image will have beyond the moment of capture. The fun and excitement comes from not only finding images but to transform them into something that moves beyond the boundaries of perceived reality.

The final step in the process is the printing. Sometimes the most challenging decision is in selecting an image to print. I prefer to do my own printing and use primarily cotton fiber papers.

A 2005 graduate of the Studio Arts program at the University of Guelph, I have continued to develop and evolve my practice and the uniqueness of my imagery. This has been enhanced by joining international photo tours that have included in Italy, and South India and Mexico. I have a particular interest now in learning and using the new digital technologies.

I work from my home-based studio and exhibit twice a year from my home. In June, I exhibit in my “Art and Garden Show” and in the Fall in the Guelph Studio Tour in October.
